Hi Kirsten,
I am not living in MN any longer, but still work as a grant writer for a MN nonprofit. I try hard to stay connected with MNCN and MCF. It will be great to chat and bounce ideas around with you. Best of luck and welcome to grant writing!…

Hi all,
I began grant writing out of necessity, but stuck with it because I found it to be my passion more than annual giving or major gifts. I worked with several nonprofits, large and small, in development and public relations. I worked with dire…
With a multi-faceted background in non-profit development, grant writing, communications and public relations, today, I focus on my passion for grant writing and project development. My specialty areas are pediatric health care and health care philanthropy.
How long have you been a grant writer?
4-5 years
Are you a part-time or full-time grant writer?
Full Time Grant Writer
Are you a member of any fundraising organizations?
AAGP, AFP, USFR
What is your greatest challenge in obtaining grants?
Educating members of an organization that the proposal and grant writing responsibilities do not only belong to the grant writer. It is so often assumed that the grant writer or development staff will "handle it". Thus, the project development process hinders the proposal writing before the idea even leaves the office.
Secondly, competition is becoming a major challenge because there is less money in the pot and more organizations needing it to survive.

Nice to hear from you! So, where are you located these days? (I see you've joined both the MN and the UT grant writers groups.) Is Jigsaw a nonprofit consulting firm? Fill me in.
I sat for my GPC last summer (2008). It was more difficult than the CFRE -- but definitely worth it.
Glad to see you here! Welcome to the For GrantWriters Only learning community. I know your input will be valuable. If there is a specific expertise that you would like to share with the group, let me know.
